About Pokemon Blaze Black 2 Redux

Three modes—Easy, Challenge, and Black City—anchor Pokémon Blaze Black 2 Redux. AphexCubed and Drayano's completed NDS hack of Black 2 is version 1.4.1 and revises evolution methods, gift Pokémon, item locations, moves, type combinations, trainers, trades, and wild areas. Every Legendary and Mythical Pokémon can be caught. The game also uses Drayano's engine, adds important NPCs, and includes Redux documentation in its files.

What's in it

  • Changed evolution methods.
  • A wider variety of gift Pokémon.
  • Drayano's engine and new important NPCs.
  • Easy, Challenge, and Black City modes.
  • Every Legendary and Mythical Pokémon can be caught.
  • Redux documentation included with the game files.
  • Changed item locations and updated Pokémon moves.
  • Changes to type combinations, trainers, trades, and wild areas.
◆ POKEPATCHED NOTES

A substantial rework of Pokémon Black 2 with revised battles, an expanded postgame and three difficulty settings. It is much tougher than vanilla outside Easy Mode, and its Fairy-type implementation may not run on original DS hardware.

Base ROM: Pokémon Black 2, clean vanilla .nds (American or European).

Before you patch

  • Use a clean vanilla Pokémon Black 2 .nds file. The guide permits American or European cartridge dumps, but says not to patch the original Blaze Black 2 hack.
  • Get the creator-linked v1.4.1 ZIP. It contains Pokemon Blaze Black 2 Redux Complete v1.4.1.xdelta, plus the patcher, secondary patches and documentation. Apply the Complete patch first.
  • Pick Complete or Classic deliberately. Classic removes Redux’s non-canon type combinations, abilities and stat boosts; EV-less variants are secondary patches applied after the main patch.
  • Prefer an emulator. The documentation says the Fairy-type changes can fail on original hardware.

Who it’s for

Choose Redux if you want Black 2’s structure with a strategic battle overhaul and extra postgame. Easy Mode lowers opponent levels and AI; Normal is substantially harder than vanilla; Challenge adds six-Pokémon Gym teams and more Double and Triple battles.

It is a less natural fit for players who want untouched Pokémon data: Complete makes broader custom species changes, while Classic keeps the updates closer to their Gen VIII forms.

Version history

  • v1.4.1 — 24 June 2023, the latest patch archive in the creators’ Drive.
  • v2.0.0 — announced on 18 December 2024, but AphexCubed said it was not expected to release soon; it was still in development.

Pokemon Blaze Black 2 Redux: common questions

Which ROM do I need for Blaze Black 2 Redux?
Use a clean, vanilla Pokémon Black 2 .nds file. The included guide accepts American or European cartridge dumps; do not try to apply Redux to the older Blaze Black 2 hack.
What patch format does it use?
The official v1.4.1 Blaze Black 2 download is a ZIP containing the Complete xdelta patch. Patch the base ROM first; the Classic and EV-less options are secondary patches applied to that newly patched game.
What difficulty should I choose?
Easy uses the Normal-mode teams with lower levels and AI. Normal is intended to be harder than vanilla but generally uses single battles, while Challenge gives Gym Leaders six Pokémon from the start and adds Double and Triple battles.
Does Redux have postgame content?
Yes. The documentation describes roughly two to three extra hours after the main game, centred on a Unity Tower questline; it also leads to the Dialga, Palkia, Giratina and Arceus encounters.
Can I play it on original DS hardware?
The project documentation warns that the Fairy-type implementation can fail on original hardware, so an emulator is recommended. The patching guide lists DeSmuME, melonDS, DraStic and iNDS as options.
