A Galar-focused Johto Pokédex reshapes the journey in Pokémon Golden Shield, with Generation 8 wild encounters, trades, gifts, and eggs. cos_mino made this completed English NDS hack from HeartGold using the hg-engine battle engine, which brings moves, items, and abilities through Generation 9. Pokémon Golden Shield is cos_mino's HeartGold rebuild that swaps the usual Pokédex for a Galar-focused roster. Its practical trade-off is patching: players must choose the xdelta file that matches their USA, Europe or Xenophobia HeartGold dump.

Before you patch
- Use the matching region patch. The creator publishes separate
.xdeltafiles for USA, Europe and Xenophobia HeartGold. Begin with a fresh.ndscopy; a mismatched patch is the first thing to rule out if it will not apply. - Use an xdelta patcher. The official instructions recommend xdeltaUI or DeltaPatcher. In xdeltaUI, select the matching patch, choose the HeartGold file as the source, then set an output filename such as
Pokemon Golden Shield.nds. - Extract the whole xdeltaUI download. If it throws an unmanaged-exception error, the creator says xdelta was probably left behind when extracting the archive.
Who it’s for
This is for players who want the familiar Johto route and Gym/League framework with its Pokémon roster rebuilt around Galar. It is a poorer fit for anyone who wants the standard HeartGold Pokédex: the creator’s stated premise is to replace it, rather than add a separate Galar area.
