Permanent Mega Evolution, a locked Set battle style, and no in-battle healing items make Pokémon Omega Rebirth a hard Ruby-based GBA alpha. Player Brendan and Gutemberg update movesets toward Generation 8 while adding Pokémon through Generation 8, later-generation moves, the Fairy type, and the physical/special split. Remade maps, revised graphics, new battle backgrounds, a battle HUD, particles, and move animations change the presentation. Trainers use maximum EVs and improved movesets, while the post-game follows a different path.
