1
◆ STEP 01

Get a clean Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver ROM

You need a clean, unmodified copy of Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver. Patches are built against a specific version (usually the US v1.0 release) — other versions will fail the patch checksum.

TIP Pokepatched does not host or link to base ROMs. You must legally own the original cartridge.
2
◆ STEP 02

Download the xdelta patch

Grab the patch from one of the download mirrors on this page. It will usually come as a .zip — extract it to reveal the .xdelta file.

3
◆ STEP 03

Apply the patch with xdelta UI / DeltaPatcher

Open xdelta UI / DeltaPatcher, load the patch file, then select your clean base ROM when prompted. The tool will produce a new, patched ROM file — keep the original untouched.

TIP DeltaPatcher has a friendly GUI on top of xdelta.
4
◆ STEP 04

Install melonDS

Download melonDS from its official site and install it. melonDS runs on Windows, macOS, Linux. Other supported emulators are listed below.

TIP Recommended — accurate and supports most hacks.
5
◆ STEP 05

Load your patched ROM and play

Open melonDS, go to File → Open ROM, and select the patched ROM you just created. Save files are generated next to the ROM — back them up if you're worried about losing progress.

TIP If the game fails to boot, you probably used the wrong base ROM version. Try a US v1.0 copy.
◆ RECOMMENDED EMULATORS

Supported hardware simulators

Any of these will run Pokemon Pure Heart & True Soul. Pick whichever matches your operating system.

◆ TROUBLESHOOTING

Common errors

Patch won't apply — checksum error ▼

Your base ROM is the wrong version. Patches are built against a specific release (usually US v1.0). European or v1.1 ROMs fail the checksum. Get the exact version listed in step 1.

Game boots to a black screen ▼

Usually an emulator accuracy issue. Try a different emulator from the list — melonDS and DeSmuME are the most compatible for Nintendo DS hacks.

Saves aren't working ▼

Most emulators write .sav / .srm next to the ROM. Make sure the ROM folder is writable (not Program Files on Windows). In-game saves are portable; emulator save states are not.

Can I play this on my phone? ▼

Yes — the emulator list includes mobile options. Patch the ROM on a computer first, then transfer the patched file.
