About Pokemon Aesthetic Red
Open-world Kanto and the Sevii Islands let you challenge Gyms in any order without HM restrictions. Pokémon Aesthetic Red is a completed English GBA hack by LibertyTwins, based on FireRed and version 1.1. It gives the game vibrant graphics and a refreshed soundtrack, while making Generation I–II Pokémon and their related evolutions available. Reusable TMs, a portable PC, Infinite Rare Candy, Wonder Trade, and Move Tutors add convenience. Optional level scaling, level caps, Doubles Mode, and randomizers can shape a run, while its main rebalance changes stats, Abilities, learnsets, and types; a Faithful version is also included.

Pokémon Aesthetic Red is LibertyTwins' open-order FireRed rework of Kanto and the Sevii Islands, centred on a new visual and musical presentation. Its trade-off is choice: the Normal build changes battle balance, while the Faithful and Music & Graphics Only builds preserve progressively more of FireRed's original mechanics.

Before you patch
- Use the creator’s download, which is currently labelled Aesthetic Red (V1.2).zip. The official thread describes the release as patches; it is not a pre-patched ROM.
- Patch a clean Fire Red (Squirrels) (1636) ROM. The developers specifically identify that base when troubleshooting a patch that will not apply.
- Pick your presentation before patching: Normal and Faithful each have separate GBC- and DS-style font/battle-sprite patches.
- Keep a backup of an existing save before replacing a patched file. The developers say their small hotfixes have kept saves compatible, but a backup is still sensible.
Who it’s for
Choose Normal if you want the redesigned boss battles to use the intended changed Abilities and balance. Choose Faithful if you want the same world and conveniences while retaining FireRed’s official battle data; the developers warn that its missing Ability changes reduce boss difficulty. Music & Graphics Only is the least disruptive route, retaining vanilla gameplay.
The official documentation is worth opening before a planned run: it has dedicated sheets for encounters, boss teams, evolutions, learnsets, tutors, HMs, marts and TMs.
