About Pokemon Crossroads

Three connected regions and two complete story campaigns make Pokémon Crossroads a large-scale crossover journey. The Crossroads Dev Team's new English GBA beta, version 1.1, is based on Pokémon Emerald. Travel through Hoenn, Kanto, and the Sevii Islands, then collect all eight Hoenn and eight Kanto Gym Badges. Dedicated patches let you begin in Pallet Town or Littleroot, and PokéCenters in Viridian City and Oldale Town provide instant region switching. AreaNav supplies minimaps for each region. The game combines the narrative campaigns of Pokémon Emerald and FireRed on a modern pokeemerald-expansion technical base.

What's in it

  • Three connected, fully explorable regions: Hoenn, Kanto, and the Sevii Islands.
  • The full stories of Pokémon Emerald and FireRed together.
  • A 16-badge challenge with eight Hoenn and eight Kanto badges.
  • Start in Pallet Town or Littleroot through dedicated patches.
  • Instant region switching through the PokéCenters in Viridian City and Oldale Town.
  • AreaNav minimaps for every region.
  • Built on pokeemerald-expansion for modern battle mechanics and stability.
◆ POKEPATCHED NOTES

Pokémon Crossroads is an in-development Pokémon Emerald hack that joins the complete Hoenn and Kanto/Sevii campaigns in one 16-badge save. It is a substantial beta rather than a finished multi-region game: Johto remains in development, and a few Kanto-facing systems are still incomplete.

Base ROM: Pokémon Emerald Version (U) (USA) — a clean dump has CRC32 1F1C08FB.

Before you patch

  • Use the official Beta 1.4 UPS patch with a clean Pokémon Emerald Version (U) / USA ROM. The GitHub release published on 25 April 2026 supplies pokemon_crossroads_beta1.4.ups; it is not a ready-to-play ROM.
  • Start a new save. Vanilla Emerald saves are incompatible with Crossroads because the project uses expanded memory allocation and different starting configurations.
  • Use an accurate emulator. The developers strongly recommend mGBA (or its RetroArch core) and warn that MyBoy can cause crashes or save issues.
  • Choose where to begin. The unified patch starts in Hoenn by default; hold SELECT while it boots for Pallet Town and the Kanto opening.

Who it’s for

This is for players who want to play the Emerald and FireRed stories back-to-back in one save, with the order chosen at the start. Beta 1.4 includes Hoenn, Kanto and the Sevii Islands, but not Johto, which the team still lists as in development.

The beta has practical rough edges: Kanto badges do not appear on the Trainer Card, some FireRed-specific items do not work, and minor Trainer Card/UI behaviour can vary by starting region.

Version history

  • Beta 1.4 — 25 April 2026; fixes intended to unblock the Kanto story and updates from pokeemerald-expansion.
  • Beta 1.3 — added follower Pokémon and the Flight Call item.
  • Beta 1.2 — added Pokémon Center region-teleport doors and fixed disappearing PC-box Pokémon.

Pokemon Crossroads: common questions

Is Pokémon Crossroads finished?
Beta 1.4 contains the full Hoenn, Kanto and Sevii Islands stories, with 16 badges. The developers still describe Johto as in development, so it is not the planned complete multi-region project.
Which ROM do I patch?
The official Beta 1.4 instructions specify a legally obtained Pokémon Emerald Version (U) / USA .gba file. The release is a UPS patch, not a pre-patched game.
Can I use an existing Emerald save?
No. The team says vanilla Emerald saves are incompatible because of expanded memory allocation and the different starting configurations; begin a new game after patching.
How do I choose Hoenn or Kanto first?
Beta 1.4 uses one patch. Start normally for Littleroot/Hoenn, or hold SELECT while the game boots to start in Pallet Town/Kanto; both routes share the same story access and 16-badge objective.
Which emulator should I use?
The release recommends mGBA on desktop and its core in RetroArch. It specifically warns against MyBoy, which may crash or have save problems.
