About Pokemon Roaring Red
All 386 Pokémon are catchable as redesigned boss teams, Fairy types, and the Physical/Special split raise the challenge. Pokémon Roaring Red is a completed GBA hack by Caves, based on FireRed, version 2.0. It rebalances encounters, moves, items, berries, and fully evolved Pokémon, with revised stats, types, Abilities, and movesets. The Sevii Islands postgame adds bosses and Gym Leader rematches on Seven Island. Summary screens show EVs, IVs, Happiness, and Hidden Power types.
What's in it
- All 386 Pokémon, including every Legendary Pokémon, can be caught.
- The Physical/Special split and Fairy type.
- Redesigned major boss battles using Pokémon from every generation, with more varied teams and greater difficulty.
- Curated movesets, stat boosts, Ability changes, and type changes for Pokémon; no fully evolved Pokémon has under 430 base stat total.
- Rebalanced encounters in every area, including new wild encounters where none existed before.
- An expanded Sevii Islands postgame with new boss fights and Gym Leader rematches on Seven Island.
- Dozens of new and rebalanced moves, including moves from later generations.
- View EVs, IVs, Happiness, and Hidden Power types on the summary screen.
- Reworked healing items and berries.
- A 1-in-1000 shiny rate.
- An updated overworld map, Pokémon sprites, and custom boss Trainer sprites.
Roaring Red is a Gen 3-engine overhaul built around redesigned bosses, documented level caps and an extended Sevii postgame. Its useful choice is between the standard patch and a Challenge Mode that makes routes, Gyms and the League more demanding.
Before you patch
- Choose a mode first. The creator’s v2.0 release has separate standard and Challenge Mode UPS patches. Patch instructions are in the linked Discord.
- Read the trainer sheets. The creator publishes trainer, encounter and Pokémon documents in the Roaring Red documentation folder. They list the altered bosses and intended level caps.
Who it’s for
Roaring Red fits players who want a planned, boss-focused run and are happy to use level caps and Rare Candies. The main trainer document explicitly recommends that approach for both Nuzlockes and casual runs.
Standard mode is the less demanding choice. Challenge Mode adds mandatory full-team Gym Trainers, more route bosses, a Victory Road healer, and further Gym/League revisions. The v2.0 release also adds Legendary Guardian minibosses before Legendary Pokémon that can be reached before the Elite Four, rather than allowing sequence breaks.
Version history
- v2.0 — 1 Mar 2026. The creator described it as the likely final big update; it added final balancing, purchasable Exp. Shares in Viridian City’s Poké Mart, and the two-mode release.
